VR Pilot


In 2019, we started exploring the feasibility of VR as a training tool for the natural gas distribution industry.


One of our earliest tests was just exploring the feasibility of assembling a neighborhood out of purchased assets.


Quick modeling in Blender to see if we could create our own simplified objects


After doing some more low-poly modeling, we tried to expand on the strengths of VR training. In this shot, natural gas assets are highlighted in yellow on houses and below the streets.


The next step, based on conversations with internal shareholders, involved simulating a gas leak.


Before settling on hardware, we entertained the idea of rendering 360 panoramas for exploring with Google Cardboard.


One of our final steps, before partnering with an industry VR consortium, was moving to Unity.
