An excerpt from a video we produced that demonstrates the damaging effects of corrosion on buried pipe.

I worked in tandem with one of our instructors to get this shot set up. We ended up hooking up a series of 9v batteries end-to-end to generate enough voltage. Sped up, we’re able to see the piece of pencil graphite deteriorate nearly in real time.

The connector is stainless steel and less prone to corroding. Even still, the bubbles forming on the surface as current is applied indicate that the metal is being attacked.
